Why is the tournament limited only to legally deaf people? I think it should be open to anyone involved in the deaf community. I mean, if the WSOP said “no deaf people allowed”, the deaf community would be outraged, would claim discrimination, etc. So isn’t it hypocritical for NDPT to say “no hearing people allowed”?
I’m assuming the logic behind not allowing hearing people was that they might have an unfair advantage by being able to talk to eachother? But then couldn’t you just make a rule that any communication at the table must be signed? Same as how Vegas casinos say English is the only language allowed at the table…
It seems like a hearing person who was fluent in ASL and involved in the Deaf community (CODAs, interpreters, etc) would “fit” into this tournament more than someone who may be legally deaf, but doesn’t sign or involve themselves in the community.
Basically, I think the tournament should be limited to “big-D-Deaf” people, as opposed to being limited to people with a medical hearing loss.
Is it possible to make some sort of ammendment to the rules for this tournament?
